"What could have been the kind of bittersweet monster movie del Toro has excelled at instead feels shackled by its opulence, trudging through a two-and-a-half-hour run time to arrive at its expected conclusion."

"It works. It's dark, it's classical Guillermo, it's very bloody -- it's Frankenstein."

"As much as I appreciate it thematically, I think what really blew me away about it is that this is a really, really beautiful movie, even though it's a very gruesome movie, in many respects."

"Del Toro’s creation is a great idea with so much beauty within it, but the film simply doesn’t do enough to make it the masterpiece as it could have been."

"It's the kind of film that feels truly handcrafted; stitched together with an almost obsessive attention to detail, much like Victor's own creation."

"Del Toro is already one of the greatest filmmakers of the 21st century. With Frankenstein, he's continued to cement a legacy that will delight and challenge film lovers for years to come."

“If you are to not award me love, then I will indulge in rage. And mine is infinite” What a line. How do you create and then hate your own creation? Man never was, and will never be able to play God for he is too fallible and naive. The film makes you quite pensive throughout, as it shows how humans, specifically Victor, are the real monsters and by the end of the movie I felt more like a misanthrope than I already did. Yet, there was also the good side of humanity, highlighted by the sort of motherly and understanding nature of Elizabeth towards the monster and the wisdom of the old man and his perspective, which were contrasting to Victor. There was also this notion of forgiveness, understanding and a sort of empathy that was prevalent throughout the monster’s character development, and the ending brought it all together. Such a profound, meaningful movie with beautiful cinematography and I cannot see anyone other than Jacob Elordi play the monster. Such a brilliant performance. I also believe that the people who rated this movie low are asking too much of it. The movie delivers what it should, in my humble opinion. Who knows, my opinion might change after I read the book but I’ll say this: this is Del Toro’s Frankenstein not Mary Shelley’s and it should be seen as such.
